2 "Zeitsplitter -die Jägerin" /"All Our Yesterdays" -Cristin Terrill

 Ich weiß noch gar nicht, wie ich das Gefühl beschreiben soll, das ich nach dem Lesen dieses Buches hatte. Während "Legend" eher ein Flop war und "Der Name der Rose" trotz des Krimis eher gemächlich vor sich hinplätscherte, war das hier ersten Spannung und zweitens Atemlosigkeit. Ich habe es heute in einem Rutsch durch gehabt und war so berührt und aufgerüttelt, dass ich beschloss, die Rezension sofort zu schreiben und einige andere aufzuschieben.  Ich finde ja Deutsches Cover und Titel Katastrophal gewählt für so ein gutes Buch. Im Original passt wie so oft alles viel besser. Ich mache mir allerdings Sorgen, dass es eine Fortsetzung geben könnte (Vom Titel her), hoffe es aber für dieses Buch auf keinen Fall, denn dieses Buch kann eigentlich nur gut bleiben, wenn man es bei diesem einen belässt.

I still don't know how to describe that feeling, I had after reading this book. While "Legend" was rather a flop and "The Name of Rose flowed rather calmly this was firstly thrilling and secondly breath-taking. I read through in one go and I was so moved and aroused that I decided to write the Review instantly and delay some of the others. I think, the German Cover and title are chosen miserabley for such a good book. In the original everything fits much better, as it happens so often. I'm actually worrying, if there will be a sequel, because of the title, but I don't hope that for this book, I believe actually, that it can only be good, if it remains one stand-alone.

Cristin Terrill berichtet sehr hart und unumgänglich, es gibt keine Happy End, bei dem man den Eindruck hat, dass es zu gut ist, kein weichgewaschenes Ende, bei dem es ganz superschön ist und man sich fragt, ob eine Geschichte noch simpler und flacher enden kann; das finde ich toll. Das Buch schafft es außerdem, sowohl ganze menschliche, gefühlvolle Aspekte mit wissenschaftlichen zu verbinden, und auch mehr Gefühle als nur eine obeflächliche Liebe in eine Dystopie darzustellen. Das Schöne ist, dass es einem auch aufzeigt, wie oberflächlich manche Mädchen heute über Liebe denken und wie sich die Meinung eines Menschen über die Liebe ändern kann, alles ist drin.
Man hat in der Geschichte immer jeweils zwei Versionen der Hauptfiguren vor sich, eine ältere und eine jüngere vor sich und schon allein die Unterschiede zu sehen ist schockierend. Dann die Veränderung der Welt, die durch die Zeitreisen eintritt. Es wurde nicht von einer weltfernen Zukunft berichtet, in der alles so anders ist, dass die Welt nicht mehr wiederzuerkennen ist, sondern eine, in der solche Länder wie Israel, Syrien und China erwähnt werden und in der außerdem die EU erwähnt wird (Wow! In einem amerikanischen Roman!) in dem auch von Dingen außerhalb Amerikas berichtet wird (Wow! In einer Dystopie!) Zwar nur ganz kurz, aber es wird wenigstens nicht so getan, als gäbe es nicht als Amerika. Und dadurch, dass es eine ganz andere Welt ist, aber dennoch eine, die man wiedererkennt, sind die Veränderungen eigentlich noch viel schockierender.

Cristin Terrill tells very hard and inevitable, there's no happy end where you think it's too good, no sugar-coated end, where you wonder, whether a story can be even more simple and shallow; I think that's great. The book is able, to connect very human, emotional aspects with scientific and to show more feelings than a shallow love story in a dystopia. The good thing is, it embraces how cursorily some girls nowadays think about love and how a person opinion about love can change, everything's included.
You have alway each two versions of the main charakter before you, an older and a younger one and simple seeing the differences is shocking. Then the change of the world, caused by the time travels. It's not about an unworldly future, where everything's so different that you don't recognize the world anymore, but one, in which countries like Israel, Syria and China are mentioned and in which also the EU is mentioned (wow! In an American novel!) and where things outside America are mentioned (wow! in a dystopia!) Actually only short, but at least there's not pretense that there's nothing but America. And thereby, that it's another world, but one, that you recognize, the changes are actually even more shocking.

Der hohe Preis, den man dafür zahlt, die Vergangenheit zu ändern, ist irgendwie ein Pluspunkt, denn es ist eben nicht bequem, die Zeit zu verändern, sondern man muss wirklich einen guten Grund dafür haben (oder wahnsinnig sein) um es tun zu wollen. Dadurch erscheint die Zeitreise sogar ziemlich logisch, ich würde sagen, es ist die beste Zeitreisegeschichte, die ich bisher gelesen, bzw. gesehen habe. Egal was es war, ob der Zeitumkehrer oder der DeLorean, alles hatte seine Macken, aber diese Zeitmaschine ist einfach nur beängstigend, weil sie eben nicht bequem ist und dadurch sehr real erscheint.

The high price, that has to be payed, to change the past, is somehow a score, since it isn't comfortable, to change time, but you need to have a good reason (or need to be mad) to want to do that. That way the time travel even seems quite logical, I'd say that it's the best time traveling story, that I ever read, or, accordingly, watched. No matter what, the Time Turner or the DeLorean, everything had faults, but this time machine is simply frightening, because it doesn't appear comfortable and so very real.

Die Liebesgeschichte war, wie zu erwarten, ein Liebesdreieck, zwei Jungs, ein Mädchen, aber das verzeihe ich dem Buch, weil die wahre Liebe hier einmal die Oberflächliche verdrängen darf und die Liebe hier wächst, statte vom Himmel zu fallen. Man mag außerdem die Protagonisten alle sofort, die drei Hauptfiguren um die sich die gesamte Geschichte dreht und deren Handlung quasi die Welt verändert.
Wie alles sich entwickelt hat und wie man nur durch Details sich die unbekannten Splitter der Geschichten zusammensetzen darf, ist einfach wunderbar, man wird hier nicht am Gängelband durch die Geschichte geführt, sondern man wird immer wieder durch kleine Details aufgeklärt.

The love story was, just as you'd exspect, a love triangle, two boys, one girl, but this time I forgive the book, because the true love is here allowed to replace the cursorily one and the love grows instead appearing from nowhere. You also instantly like all protagonists, the three main charakters about the whom the whole story is and through their actions the world changes.
How everything develops and how you're able to only by reading details put together the unknown fragments of the story is really wonderful, your not lead through the story with a lead-string, but you're always enlightened by small details.

Der Schreibstil war kurz, knapp und gebündelt, wenn aus der Sicht von Em oder Marina (die beide dieselbe Person sind) berichtet wurde, sodass es sich nicht gelohnt hätte, irgendwelche Zitate zu sammeln, dazu ist der Erzählstil viel zu nüchtern, aber dafür kommt die Handlung schnell voran und bleibt durchgehend spannend, sodass man eigentlich gar nicht anders kann als immer weiterzulesen. Schon lange hat mich kein Buch mehr so gefesselt. Die Handlung war vielleicht ein bisschen zu sehr auf Marina und Em konzentriert und man erfuhr eigentlich wenig darüber, was sonst auf der Welt geschieht, wie das ja in Dystopien passiert, wenn alle möglichen Details über das "System" beschrieben werden, sondern es geht hauptsächlich um die Figuren. Die beeindruckenden Figuren, ich weiß, dass ich mich wiederhole.

The writing style was short, scarce and tight, when it was told from the perspecive of Em or Marina (Who are both the same persin), so it wasn' worth to collect quotes, because the style is much to prosaic, but then again the plot goes on quickly and stays steadily thrilling, so you can't help but read on. For a long time no book has fettered me so much. The plot might be a bit too concentrated on Marina and Em and you didn't learn much about the rest of the world, like it happens in dystopias, when all kinds of details about the "System" are described, but it's mainly about the charakters. The impressing charakters, I know that I'm repeating myself.

Also, wieder mal ne Dystopie, dachte ich mir, auch wenn sich die Macher von den Twilightfilmen die Filmrechte für dieses Buch gesichert haben, als es gerade rauskam und ich denen nicht über den Weg traue...
Jedenfalls habe ich das  Buch gelesen. Und ich fand es gut. Ehrlich. Spannende Story und alles, tolle Charaktere und natürlich der übliche böse Staat in einer Dystopie. Ach je. Das ganze war gut ausgeführt und spannend geschrieben. Und ich mag das Buch und seine Figuren wirklich. Zumindest die Handlung ist glaubwürdig. Leider hat das alles zwei Haken, die mir schließlich alles versaut  haben: Erstens, die Handlungen und die Charaktere waren glaubwürdig. Aber die Hauptfiguren, Day und June sind zu perfekt. Nicht menschlich, aber von ihren Fähigkeiten und allem. Sie können alles und sind außerdem beide superschlau und das war zwar aufregend, aber es stört auch, weil es viel zu unrealistisch ist. Zwei perfekt Helden, die zueinander finden. Na Danke. Zweitens weil es einfach bloß eine Dystopie ist. Der Staat scheint nicht wirklich durch seine Existenz irgendwelche reellen Zustände anzuprangern oder auch die Welt verändern zu wollen, sondern existiert halt als das böse System, das bekämpft werden muss, so wie in jeder Dystopie. Außerdem sehr nach dem typischen Dystopien Muster, also eben bloß eine Dystopie, bei der man nicht nachdenken kann, wie sehr unsere Gesellschaft ihre ähnelt, also auch gar keine Parallele zur Realität hat (Gute Dystopien haben das). Es hat einfach keine bestimmte Aussage, sondern existiert einfach als Dystopie.

So again an Dystopia, I thought, although the makers of the Twilight movies already had assured the movie rights for it, when it just appeared an I actually don't trust them...
Anyway I read the book. And I liked it. Honestly. A thrilling story and so on, great charakters and of course the usual bad state in a dystopia. Oh dear. That really was well done and well written. And I really like the book and the charakters. At least the plot is authentic. But regrettably it has to snags, which kind of buggers the whole book. First of all, the plot and the charakters were authentic. But the main charakters, Day and June are too perfekt. Not from the human aspect, but their skills and all. They master everything easily and also are both totally smart and that was actually exciting, but it also bothers, since it's much too unrealistic. Too perfect heros finding each other. Thanks. Secondly because it's just another dystopia. The state exists actually only as the bad system too be fought, just like in any dystopia. Also it very much after the typical dystopia pattern, so just a dystopia, in which you actually can't think about whether it similates to our society, so it also has no analogy to reality (Good dystopias have that). It has no conclusion but only exists as a dystopia.

Es war übrigens keine Liebesgeschichte, auch wenn das auf dem Cover dransteht. Es gibt zwar eine Stelle, an der sie sich küssen, aber das ist nicht wirklich eine Liebesgeschichte. Ich würde sagen, sie sind Feinde, die zu guten Freunden werden, also erwartet nichts in die Richtung. Mich persönlich hat das allerdings nicht gestört, ich war froh, dass es keine pathetisch-romantischen Gedankengänge der Figuren über den jeweils anderen gibt.

It was by the way no love story, although that stands on the cover (on the German one). There is a passage, where they kiss, but that's actually not really a love story. I'd say that they're enemies becoming friends, so don't exspect anything of that kind. It didn't really bother me actually, I was relieved, that there were no pathetic-romantic thought of the charakters about the other.

Insgesamt hat mir das Buch einigermaßen gefallen, also bekommt es dreieinhalb Delphine.
Altogether I liked the book somewhat, so it get's three and a half dolphins.

0 "Divergent" -Veronica Roth (Auf Deutsch: "Die Bestimmung")

Ich hatte Angst vor Dystopien in letzter Zeit. Angst davor, dass der Autor mir wieder eine depressiven Mist verkaufen würde, dass die Geschichte zu weltfremd wirkt, weil die angebliche Zukunft viel zu mittelalterlich und das Szenario zu unrealistisch ist, und ich nur sehr wenig von dem Buch haben würde. Eigentlich war es ja nur weil der Film rauskommt und ich ihn auf jeden Fall im Kino sehen wollte. Als Rubinrot rauskam, war das das erste Mal in meinem Leben, dass ich zu einer Buchverfilmung die Buchvorlage nicht gelesen hatte (für mich einfach unvorstellbar) und das habe ich damals bereut, weil das Buch sich als besser herausgestellt hat und der Film als nicht so gut, ich aber das Buch nicht mehr unvoreingenommen bewerten konnte. Ich habe nicht wirklich irgendetwas erwartet, ich habe das Buch gelesen, weil ich den Film jetzt in den Osterferien angucken wollte. Und es hat mich total überrascht. Positiv.

I was afraid of dystopias lately. Afraid they would sell me again just a depressive manure, that the story appears to be too unworldly, because the reportedly future is to midage-like and the scenario is too unrealistic and I wouldn't have much of the book. Actually it was only the movie coming and Iwanted to see it in any case. When Ruby Red came, it was the first time in my life that I watched a movie, without having read the book (to me it's just unthinkable) and then I regretted it, because the book turned out to be better and the movie as not so good, but I couldn't rate the book impartial anymore. I didn't really exspect anything, I read the book because I wanted to read the book now in my easter holiday. And it surprized me totally. Positively.

Das Buch hat mir all das gegeben, was mir in letzter Zeit an Büchern gefehlt hat: Spannung, Action und eine unaufdringliche, aber präsente Liebesgeschichte. Eine interessant Zukunftsvision, bei der es auch um wirklich existenzielle Fragen geht, darum, über die Entscheidung, wie man leben will. Damit greife ich nicht so weit vor, das steht auch auf dem Klappentext, nur dass sich auf dem deutschen Klappentext anhört wie bei jeder x-beliebigen Dystopie, sodass es  mich erst einmal für ein halbes Jahr abgeschreckt hat. Hörte sich nach nichts an, weil es einfach viel zu kryptisch und Aufmerksamkeit heischend, aber nicht informativ ist. Erst eine Leseprobe hat mich eigentlich einmal dazu veranlasst, dem Buch etwas mehr zu vertrauen.
In den meisten Dystopien ist die Welt ganz anders geworden und von dem was war, ist nicht mehr viel übrig. Hier dagegen spielt die Geschichte in Chicago und die Figuren essen Hamburger. Irgendwie sind das nur Details, aber für mich ist so etwas wichtig, weil ich nicht glaube, dass Dinge einfach so verschwinden können, auch wenn nur Ruinen zurückbleiben und ich reale Anhaltspunkte in einer Dystopie brauche. Das ist für mich spannender, wenn der Autor Realität zulässt als wenn ein Autor eine dystopische Welt so unrealistisch gestaltet, dass man eigentlich nicht glaubt, dass es je so kommen könnte. Wenn eine Dystopie depressiv und unrealistisch ist, bekommt man davon nur schlechte Laune. Divergent dagegen hat mich gefesselt und befeuert und ich konnte mühelos eintauchen, ich konnte kaum aufhören. Ich lese bei manchen Büchern irgendwann nur noch mühevoll weiter, obwohl mich das Buch gar nicht mehr interessiert. Aber das hier war einfach toll.

The book gave me everything I missed lately of books: thrill, action and a inconspicious, but present love story. A interesting vision of the future also about existential questions, about the decision how you want to live your life. I'm not even anticipating anything, it's how it says on the (German) blurb, only that the German blurb sounds like any old dystopia, so first it put me off this book for half a year. Didn't sound like much, because it was much too cryptical and begging for attention but not informative. At last it was an excerpt that let me trust the book more.
In most dystopias they world has changed totally and from the things that were there isn't much left. Here the story is set in Chicago and the charakters eat hamburgers. Somehow these are only detais, but for me something like that is important, because I don't believe that things simply disappear, although only ruins remain and I need real evidence in a dystopia. That's more interesting for me, when an author allows reality, than when an author creates a dystopian world so unrealistic that you actually don't believe that it will ever come that far. When a dystopia is depressive and unrealistic, you only get a bad mood. Divergent in contrast gripped me and fueled me and I could dive in without difficulty. In some books from a point I only read on hardly, although it doesn't interest me anymore. But this was simply great.

Die Figuren sind ziemlich cool und mutig, sind aber authentisch, sind detailliert gezeichnet und ich konnte mich mit ihnen gut identifizieren. Ich habe auch gemocht, dass die Fraktionen wirklich alle sowohl eine Schwäche als auch eine Stärke haben, etwas das für sie und etwas das gegen sie spricht und es keine "beste" Fraktion gibt. Ich fand die Initiation interessant, dass es nicht nur um Kämpfe und Liebe, sondern auch um Selbstüberwindung ging. Es klang wie eine seichte Geschichte, aber Divergent hat sehr tiefgängige Ideen und ich fand das Buch einfach großartig.

The charakters are really cool and brave, but they are genuine, detailed drawn and I could identify with them. I also liked, that the factions all have a strength as well as a weakness, something that argues for them and something that argues against them and there is no "best" faction. I found the Initiation interesting, since it wasn't just about fights and love, but also about self-conquest. It sounded like a shallow-brained story, but Divergent has very deep-going thoughts and I just found the book great.
